Curriculum

NON-SCHOLASTIC

Co-Curricular

For a holistic development of a child, there is a need of emotional, physical, spiritual and moral development that is complemented and supplemented by co curricular activities.

At NPS, academics excellence and co-curricular activities go hand in hand.

Through various co-curricular pursuit , such as, dance, music, painting, quiz, debates, yoga , aerobics, art and craft - children develop the skill of team work, leadership, communication, organisation of intra-school and inter-school competitions.

Sports and Games

Sport is an integral part of the curriculum at NPS, Yelahanka.

Football, basketball, volleyball, throw ball and cricket are taught by our coaches during the Games sessions. The students are also be exposed to athletics.

Yoga

We at NPS Yelahanka have introduced Yoga in the school as an activity. We believe there is a notion that students, especially at the higher classes are going through conflicting emotions and different levels of stress and this has to be addressed. Yoga helps children reduce stress, cope with difficult emotions and calm their mind. Children who are exposed to yoga earlier in life are able to better control their emotions as adults. The breathing exercises and simple yoga techniques help in optimum blood circulation which keeps the student energetic throughout the day helping them to concentrate better and have more mental focus. Yoga helps improve inner strength, patience and builds confidence in them.

Annual Events

To enrich the learning experience in both scholastic and Co-scholastic areas, NPS Yelahanka gives opportunity for the students to showcase their talents by conducting events like

  • Science Fest
  • Cultural Fest
  • Sports Fest

One of these events will be held annually.

Hobby Classes

A hobby is an activity, interest, enthusiasm, or amateur pastime that is undertaken for pleasure or relaxation, which is done during one's leisure time.
Continual participation in a hobby can provide substantial skill and knowledge in the subject.
There have been instances where hobbies have led to significant developments beyond the personal fulfilment for those involved.
Hobbies offer an opportunity to take a break - a break with a purpose.
Hobbies promote Eustress, which is a positive kind of stress, the kind that makes you feel excited about what you're doing in your regular life.
Hobbies break up routines and challenge everyone in new ways, ways that are different from work, ways that are positive.
The great thing about picking up a new hobby is that it provides an excellent outlet for challenging yourself without the negative stress that comes from a study related activity. The new challenge can also open a child's mind to new ways of seeing the world.

We at NPS have introduced the following activities as part of our Hobby club and Co-Curricular Activities:

  • Contemporary Dance
  • Western and Indian Music
  • Yoga

Contemporary Dance

Contemporary dance is a popular form of dance which developed during the earlier part of twentieth century. Contemporary dance can be performed with different styles of music. In the simplest of terms, contemporary means present day or what is popular now.

Dance has always been a part of human culture, rituals and celebrations since early days. Dancing has become such a popular way to be active and keep fit, that most fitness clubs now offer dance classes in their group exercise programs.

Dancing can be magical and transforming. It can breathe new life into a person, wake up the spirit, unleash locked-away creativity and unite generations and cultures

Like other moderate, low-impact, weight bearing activities, such as brisk walking, cycling or aerobics, dancing can help tone up the entire body, increase stamina and flexibility, reduce stress and tension, build confidence in the children besides other benefits.

Music

We at NPS Yelahanka have introduced Western and Indian music as part of our co-curricular activities.

Music can be an amazing medium to captivate and connect with other children. Music is a magical gift which must be nourished and cultivated for betterment of our children. Scientific evidence has proven that improved knowledge in Arts gives children a better edge in Mathematics and Science. Music reduces stress and anxiety, helps children to be more focused and think more clearly.

Young children should be taught that peaceful music has endless benefits. Senior students who listen to music are likely to have less depression.
